Matariki

Friday the 24th of July J te reo and I were hosting an event celebrating Matariki, the Maori New Year.
I was at the BBQ stall cutting onions when I realised that people were starting to come in and observe the vast array of stalls. There were a lot of people dressed up as characters from their favorite movies
and tv shows. A few people started to make their way over to my stall but I was rubbing the water from my eyes because I had just finished cutting onions and my eyes were still watering and stinging so
Whakataerangi took over to take their order. As I was handing the customers their food and walked past the BBQ I could smell burnt sausages in the air. I just ignored it and carried on with what I was
going to do.

An hour had past and it was finally time to go on the stage and perform I was still a bit nervous because
I wasn’t sure if I could remember the actions for our songs when we  were singing but I ignored the t
hought of messing up and tried my best.We were on our last song and I could see a lot of smiling parents
some even getting a bit teary. After the song we walked off smiling I felt relieved that it was over and I
could go back to my stall.

The night was nearly over and people were starting to leave and pack up their stalls. I was pretty happy
that the night was coming to an end.It was around 8:00 o clock now and it was getting colder by the minu-
te. I rushed around putting back chairs and returning utensils to the cooking room. By the end of the even-
ing we finally go to go home and take a well deserved rest.
